Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

For those patients who have had previous weight loss surgery, Surgical Weight Solutions can provide an assessment and further surgical options given if indicated.

For example there is a relatively high rate of failure of adjustable bands. These bands can be removed and patients converted to a gastric bypass. This can be done laparoscopically.

Some patients may have had open stapling procedures in the past. Once again it is generally possible to revise these procedures. For example Gastroplasty to Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy to Gastric Bypass. Gastric Bypass can be converted to malabsorptive procedures if re-restriction is not an option.

Revisional procedures do carry higher risks and you must be aware of this if you wish to head down this pathway. Once again these operations are a tool to help. If they are used as a crutch to lean on then there is a high chance that these operations will not give patients the results that they wish. That is ongoing sensible eating patterns accompanied by a regular exercise programme are imperative to accomplish sustainable weight loss.
