Dear Mr Booth,

By the time you get this letter I will have lost 40 kg's in weight, heading towards 50 kgs - not very far away from my goal.

Hardly a day goes by without my thanking you quietly for what you and your team have done for me. I put my weight loss surgery amongst the important stages of my life. Recovery is "slowly but surely" and has been pretty straight forward.

The main thing I am thankful for, apart from the fact you are an excellent surgeon, is your compassion and understanding to be there to intervene. You gave me a chance. Without that chance it would never have happened.

The benefits of the surgery have been numerous. My health has improved in many ways.

The main benefit I am enjoying is the psychological aspect of at last being able to think of myself as a normal sized person, after having been massive all my life. It has been so psychologically draining for me to be so vigilant in what I have eaten and to have done a lot of exercise yet still been 3 or 4 times the size of most other people. It has always been a battle that I had no show of winning.

Since my weight loss surgery not only has the battle been won but the war is not there. This is a feeling that I am enjoying so much. I would never have thought that an operation on my guts would change so much in my head. While my waist is shrinking my mind is expanding. It is a fabulous place to be.

My thanks to you and your team. I wonder if you can remotely comprehend what a change in my life you have been responsible for. It is for that you will always be remembered.
