Beth-Maree 31 - Gastric Bypass
I was morbidly obese, suffered from chronic illnesses,
depression and low esteem when I decided to go ahead with a
gastric bypass. I weighed in over 156kgs, wore size 30 clothes
and was only 163cm tall. For years I struggled to lose weight
with all sorts of diets but only ever put more on.
Seven years ago I saw Michael while he was practising in
Invercargill. He then suggested a gastric band. Being unable to
afford this procedure I deposited it to the back of my mind.
Then two years ago I came in to some money and my first thought
was to have the operation.
So I set out to research a gastric bypass and to locate Michael
as I found him to be professional, non-judgemental and treated
me with dignity. So much that I only wanted Michael to do the
surgery.
Michael had relocated to Auckland and it took a couple of weeks
to get his contact details from a number of different
consultants. A week later I had an appointment and two weeks
later I was booked for surgery.
I had a Laparoscopic gastric bypass in August 2003 it was a
success. I was discharged after four days and had already lost
3kgs. During the next nine months I lost another 70kgs with the
help of Michael, Elizabeth and all the staff at Waitemata
Surgeons.
I will admit that over the last 2 years that it has been a
challenge, a life changing experience BUT one that I would never
change. I have now got my life back on track.
In conclusion I would like to thank Michael for treating me with
respect, compassion, the support that you provided me with. I
will always be extremely grateful. You have changed my life for
the better.
I now weigh in at 70kg having lost 86kgs, my health is thousand
times better and I am able to do the things I would have only
dreamed off. For example I am now studying to be a dive
instructor.
I would recommend Michael Booth to anybody that has a weight
problem considering a gastric bypass or any other procedure.
